What is KNOPPIX?

KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it (over 8GB on the DVD "Maxi" edition).

What are the minimum system requirements?

* Intel-compatible CPU (i486 or later),

* bootable CD-ROM drive, or a boot floppy and standard CD-ROM (IDE/ATAPI or SCSI),
* standard SVGA-compatible graphics card,
* serial or PS/2 standard mouse or IMPS/2-compatible USB-mouse.

How is KNOPPIX started?

To start the CD, set up the BIOS of your computer to boot off the CD, put the CD in the drive, and power up the computer. If your computer doesn't support this option, you have to use a boot disk. You can create this disk from the image in KNOPPIX/boot.img on the CD. With the KNOPPIX-terminalserver (available from version 3.2 and later), KNOPPIX can also be booted over the network from a computer already running the CD.

A lot of BSOD`s are caused by faulty ram/underpowered psu`s/overheating/overclocking/dust and debris. There are a few things you can do to solve your problemFirst run a complete disk check. Click start/run and type chkdsk /f /r and press the enter key. Follow the onscreen prompts and reboot your computer. Windows will check your hard drive for problems. Depending on the size of your hard drive, this can take quite some time.another thing you can try is First, turn off your computer and unplug it fromthe main power and disconnect all cables then push the power button to fully drain the powerthen open it up. Clean out all dust, dirt all that stuff, especially from the heatsinks and fans.A can of compressed air is very useful for this part. Next, take out your ram sticks and gently clean the gold contacts with an eraser. Blow away the remains on ram, also blow out any dust that may be in the ram slots.Reinsert the ram. Restart your system and see if it becomes more stable.You might also want to try placing the ram in a different dim slot. Check your system for overheating. The free Everest program is useful for this.Check that your psu is putting out enough power for your system. Especially, check that there are enough amps on the 12volt rail. An underpowered psu can cause all kinds of random crashes. Check that your pagefile is ok.Do the following. To do so do as followed right click my computer, and select properties,and then the advanced tab under performance, click settings. Click on the advanced tab, and then on the change button click on the custom size button, and click the initial size box and make the size of the page file 0. Click in the maximum size box, and make the size of the page file 0 now click set.Now all you have to do is reboot your machine. After your system has restarted run a defrag. Once the defrag has finished, go back to the pagefile settings above,and click on the change button. For the initial, and maximum pagefile size make it 1.5 timesthe amount of ram your have. Ex.if you have 512mb of ram set the page file to 768mb. Once done click on the set button, and reboot your system.

You now have a brand new page file.

Spliting File in Linux (with no tool)

For example We want to split a file 4Mb in size.Just call it myfile.exe for the name.And we want split it in to 1000KB each which meant that the file will split into four.Here is the command for split the file:
[admin@zone]$ split -b 1000k myfile.exe
Then type this command :
[admin@ zone]$ ls -lh
You can find the files named with "xaa" "xab" "xac" "xad" which the size are 1000KB
And how to combine back the file?We can type this command below to combine the file:
[admin@zone]$ cat xa* > myfileback.exe
The files will combine back and the name return to myfileback.exe again (4MB).

Athlon 64

Earlier this year, I looked at MD’s dual-core Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (August CPU, page 25). Despite it coming out top dog in almost every benchmark I threw at it, the $900-plus price tag didn’t exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I also wished for a lowercost,entry-level dual-core option.

Consequently, in an attempt to bring dual-core X2s to the masses, AMD has decided to release its new Athlon 64 X2 3800+. The chip runs at 2GHz and has half the L2 cache at 512KB.In order to introduce this dual-core technology at such an affordable price,AMD had to cut some corners. First off,the core is based upon the Manchestercore.
With a smaller cache and die size,and fewer transistors,the Manchester core at 154 million transistors and 147mm² die size is smaller, cooler, and cheaper to make.
AMD even states that the max thermal power of the X2 has been reduced to 89W for the 3800+, which bodes well for some overclocking. With just a mild heatsink/fan combo, I hit 2.5GHz with relative stability. However,others have managed to go another 200MHz higher. As with previous CPUs, this X2 is also based on a socket 939 package, so your existing Athlon platform should work with a mild BIOS update.
From the benchmarks you can see that the X2 3800+ really put on a great fight.It easily outmatched the Intel 2.8GHz Pentium D 820 and did A-OK in the gaming tests to boot. Yes, its 2GHz clock speed is a bit on the slow side but even single-threaded applications seem to perform just fine. At the $354 price level it almost seems right for people to sway from getting single-core processors now.It’s more than acceptable in terms of gaming performance, so I feel comfortable recommending the X2 3800+.

This is the most tired release I've ever been through. I wonder if user who get this will appreciate how hard I really went through for this. It seems Lee is being too messy right now so I won't hold back any longer. This release has overall improvements for features compared to previous versions and has a lot of user interface refinements for ease of use with endUser.
